Text 22 Oct 1 note Hootie

I think Darius Rucker probably hates when people call him Hootie. But I loved that band growing up. And Darius Rucker seems to be the kind of guy I would like to be friends with. That’s how I judge famous people… ‘could I hang out with him and enjoy it?’

He is a great artist that I respect a lot. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, he lives a normal life, has a normal family, works REALLY hard, and gets to have a career doing what he loves to do. He’s the black guy who is tearing up the country music scene because he is working hard and doing it right. He writes good country songs about real life and goes out and plays them for people. Touring can be tough, but you have to do it. And he still does, even after all these years. He connects with his fans and he’s not above any of it. Staying true to himself, he has become one of the leading male artists in country music. I admire him for all of that.

This weekend, Hootie and The Blowfish celebrates their 25th anniversary. The city and birthplace of Hootie, Columbia, SC, honored Darius and the rest of the band with a permanent memorial located in downtown Cola.
