Jill Andrews (@jillandrews). I heard her play in Charlotte at the 2010 Femme Fest that I played at in May. She came out with her solo project in 2009 and I think she’s looking to release a full-length album in 2011, which I’m sure will be great as well. I wasn’t too familiar with the Everybodyfields, the band she was in previously, but I really love her solo project. It’s not a particular song that draws me to her, I think it’s just the ease of her voice that gets me.

Although I love making music and am usually up for hearing all types of music, when it comes to female artists, I tend to be really critical (I’m working on it!). Maybe it’s because I am a female artist myself, but it seems like there are SO many of us out there TRYING… but that’s just it.. the SOUND of trying just isn’t pretty. Jill Andrews doesn’t look or sound like she’s trying to be anything but who she is. And it comes across. I love that.

What would music be like if we all just settled down and stayed true to who we really are? If we weren’t concerned about what everyone else thought? If we didn’t have to think about what’s popular, what’s trending, what’s playing on radio, how to make the most money, how to find the niche, etc. etc.? I’m gonna take a guess and say music would be much better than it is right now.

Who is gonna care about what you’re writing and singing if you don’t?
